our story
For many of us, the obvious answer is that we wanted to contribute to a good cause. We wanted to serve a cause where we felt that our actions an contributions were able to make a significant impact on our society.

Upon seeing that Habitat for Humanity Singapore was the organisation we would serve, it was somewhat refreshing to see an organisation apart from the usual few that we were familiar with. It is less common to see light shed on the living conditions of those less well off in Singapore, so it was definitely something different that we wanted to be involved in.

As for Sinyu, she felt that her main motivation was from the value she found from this project, and how she wanted to support this initiative through donations and raising funds for this vulnerable group of people in our society.
The elderly are a group of people who should never be left unsupervised. Needless to say, their age has taken a toll on their body and their physical abilities, and thus will require assistance in many areas. A good percentage of accidents involving elderly are among those who are confined alone in their own home. Due to their poor eyesight and many hazards in the house, they often injure themselves one way or another, and thus supervision needs to be taken to ensure their safety and welfare.
When asked this question, a few of the core 4 of Project Hiraeth mentioned Project Homeworks as an eye-opening experience that acted as the driving force in their decision.

Heather was appalled on her first session at the severe conditions of the home.
​
"Label me as sheltered but at the very mention of 'bedbugs', I was shrinking back in fear (and understandably so). It was unlike anything I had ever seen before. I even cleaned a fridge with food items that has been slowly decomposing due to the electricity in the home being switched off for a year." Thus this spurred her to take action and join this initiative.
